New Job: Maintenance
« on: April 05, 2009, 06:38:59 am »

I am so sick of my mechanic taking time off his busy schedule so he can push a kitten corpse off my legendary weapon traps, It would be very useful if a job (Maintenance) was in place so jobless/hauler dwarves can do low difficulty tasks, it may be even more useful if roads would get damaged after a long time of use.
Perhaps it would also apply to something such as the Kegs suggestion (http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=5313.0) as a refilling task.

I feel a similar frustration will my masons.  Sure, once I have an army of 20+ masons/haulers, its not an issue, but if i want to do something like train up a mason from embark and construct a wall to protect my little outpost, I can't make my mostly useless clerk begin the construction of the wall.

Plus, constructions give no masonry experience.  Totally lame.  What I need is a 'laborer' job that has no ranks, and is just benefited from stats.  Then 'o'rder constructions to be handled by laborers only.

I recall seeing creeping fungi in the Underground Diversity thread..  a Maintenance guy would be handy for going down and scraping the mold off your walls..  and maybe he could be trained to mop muddied floors, too!
