Yes. Dwarves can fish with nothing more than their beards, but why not use bait? Special berries could be attractive to fish, or vermin for carnivorous fish.

As for bigger fish/hippos/crocodiles/crap/anything large underwater, you can use nets, which work well.

 Before posting another thing(No doubt the next suggestion will be something along the lines of gunpowder or making siege engines a little more complex or something), It would be advisible to read at least a few of the pages Here.

Okay. I'm not really offended, but okay. I'll check it out.

Huh. I noticed the Crime and Punishment arc, as well as an artifact arc. My artifact hall idea still fits though.

 We don't discourage creativity, but there are a lot of ideas that Toady is already working upon. Well, will work upon once he reaches the relevant arc.

 And sorry if I offended you a bit, kinda. For some reason threads suggesting things other have suggested seems to make people ansty for some odd reason.
