Blood covering spreading?

If a baby was carried through a pool of blood, would it get blood covering? Also, do exploding creatures leave much blood where they land?
This is for a sort of baptismal altar, except with pools of blood instead of water. Blood covering is the sign of a true dwarf, anyway...
