What do muskox and elks eating meat/fish have to do with weapon traps? I'm not entirely sure what you're saying/proposing/commenting on...

You can, but dwarves seem to just use whatever.  I've seen my trainer try to tame an elephant using elephant meat.  Worked, too.

He probably meant CAGE traps which you can currently bait with meat or gems.

You only bait animal traps.  Which can't catch elk or muskox.

I guess he's talking about taming a wild animal.

mmm my bad,
this is what happends when you play untill 5 in the morning
i ment animal traps!
but then got distracted by a cage trap going off.

shouldnt there be a vegitarian option for animals that don't eat meat?
