Food Accustomization and Favorites
« on: February 16, 2008, 03:03:00 pm »

For instance: The only food your dwarves EVER eat is plump helmets. They get used to it. After a year or so, they are offered some lungfish roast or something. They chuck it up. Sort of like them getting used to being underground, they could also become accustomed to certain foods.

Also, dwarves could have favorite foods in their profile. So and so likes to eat whatever. They could get a happy thought from eating it, and get sad thoughts from foods they don't like. If they really hate a certain thing they won't eat it or throw up open ingestion.

Pretty sure that's already in.

Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

instead of accustomed, maybe sick of?

"Is sick of plump helmets!"

Good idea. Maybe that could depend on their personality. If the were picky they would get sick of it but if they were more passive they would become accustomed.

Yeah, that makes more sense to me. They ought to be happy to see those lungfish roasts, and incidentally that would give you an incentive to grow and buy a variety of foods instead of just all plump helmets, all the time.

Related media

Dwarves eating foods they like finish faster, and eating things they don't like finish much more slowly.  Also leather and leather goods should be edible for the starving.

Dwarves shouldn't vomit up things they aren't used to; they should be a delicacy! Rare foods are not thought of as nasty in real life, people just pay bunches of moneys to eat them.

It doesn't matter how gross something is; it will be eaten by people if it's rare. And they'll love it.

I think getting sick of foods is part of...  Bloat 48?  I wanted to finish that off this last version so that the last number would be 39a instead of 38a, but I didn't get a chance.

This should vary based on the food. And per race. Humans would eat, well, more or less normal human foods, dwarves tend to eat a lot of fungus-things which humans don't like much, elves are vegans, and goblins like their meat still alive, as an example.

And, once we get more of that sort of thing in, per culture. One culture might invent lutefisk, say, which they like, and makes anybody not used to it vomit. Or something like fugu. And then there's, say, hot peppers...

Good idea. Sort of like the French eating slugs, and the asians enjoying the taste of carp.

Why incentivize monotony?

Edit: this is a reply to the original message, not the reply previous to mine
