Pathing error. 40d11
« on: March 28, 2009, 01:44:29 am »

Allright, i have a fortress with a channel around it. Now, one dwarf happened to fall out into the channel after a massacre.  He goes to the stairs, and makes a beeline, only to fall BACK into the channel.  now, the entrance is close by, and he's trying ot move 2 spaces diagonally to get there so he can drink, But he doens't realize that he keeps falling into the open channel. He's constantly looping to teh stairs, back into the chasam, stuns himself, then walks back up the stairs.   He's going to die. My miner is also stuck in there, and i cant' get him out.

*sigh* anyway,  you guys want me to upload the save?

Seeing the map would help us determine if there is an issue, but it sounds like a problem, and the save could help, so please keep it.

For your current problem, can you build a floor for the dwarves to walk over, it should stop them from starving to death.

I would build a floor, but that would defeat the purpose of having the channel to limit enemie's approach, wouldn't it?  besides, i have FOUR dwarves right now. Lousy IMps. >.<

edit: here's the save.

You build the floor, let them get their drink then deconstruct the floor.  Voila.

ahhh... that is true. i can do that. i forgot you can deconstruct floors.
anyway, the main issue is that the pathing issue exists, and dwarves are unable to find they're way around a simple trench. but thank you, again. I didnt' know about it.

As a temp fix, you can build fortifications.  Functionally, they are almost the same.

Key words in the OP: "AFTER A MASSACRE."  If you 'v' over you dwarves you'll notice that they are not only miserable, starving and dehydrated but have also gone INSANE.  That dwarf is attempting suicide, albeit badly.  There's no pathing problem here.
