DF imagery
« on: March 24, 2009, 11:08:51 pm »

I like to think of crossbow traps as being like the automated turrets from Aliens. With dwarves crouching behind the battlements counting down the ammo by listening to the twang sounds of the crossbow strings. Hoping that the siege will quit before the ammo is exhausted...

I thought that that scene was cool, does anyone else have any sources of imagery that they apply to D.F.?

Well...there IS the obvious one in Hidden Fun Stuff, what with the "they dug too deep" connotations.

oh, toady!
i like to picture battles by examining the contents of my body stockpile. when 50 wrestlers produce 5 separate pieces (usually 3 limbs, the head and the torso) from the same creature i can't help but imagine them literally tearing the gobbos apart piece by piece.

My hallway of serrated disc weapon traps reminds me of the scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. :D

I like to think that the crossbows make PEWPEWPEW sounds when they are fired.

i just render everything in 3D in my head and watch it all unfold
some specific examples
the non-crossbow weapon traps are swinging swords, spears, etc.
the crossbow traps are little holes in the walls that, when activated, shoot multiple bolts based on how many crossbows are in there.
the sof i imagine as a balrog.
so on and so forth

Whenever i watch an epic last stand, i start seeing blood soaked corridors, with dwarves desperately trying to hold off masses of enemies, and one of these songs starts playing in my head:

Mine are shooting with DAKKADAKKADAKKA for a strange reason. Should I mess with my receiever? :P

Also, on my orc-enabled fort, I have a huge (dwarfmade) hill overlooking a 7-tile-wide river, and a long ridge on the other side. On a double ambush+siege in a summer, I drafted the whole population (killed one in an 'accident to make it 30) against the invading orcs and defended the entryway.

The marksdwarves did blot out the sun, incidentally. And orcs died in the shade.

My sand barracks, I just imagine the scenes from when they're training in 300.
