So...Giant Eagles?
« on: March 19, 2009, 10:10:32 pm »

One decided to nest in my nice, cosy fortress(the main shaft, with skylights.) It managed to get in before I was able to put a grate or glass over the top of this.

So, how does one go about getting this ornery bird trapped?

Trapped? Why would you want to do that? It would be so much more fun to hold a party at the bottom of the shaft and station a good deal of marksdwarves at the top of the shaft, with loaded crossbows.

The eagle won't know what hit it.

Just recruit everyone and set them up with wooden crossbows and bolts. Or set everyone to hunt, but close the fortress's exits.

A cage trap should work to trap it. Setting up the trap is the problem. And getting it into the trap, too.

I did this with a Giant Cave Swallow. After it killed four dwarves.

Giant eagles will chase civilians; you can use this to lure them into a cage trap.  I did it once by accident, although I wasn't lucky enough to get a breeding pair.

It'll get hit by a cage trap so long as it can't fly over it, so put the trap in a corridor with a ceiling, then lure the eagle in.

Thanks to elven caravans, I currently have a breeding pair of giant eagles and giant desert scorpions... I haven't tried anything with the eagles yet, but the scorpions refused to mate. =/

That's because giant desert scorpions don't breed.

You could build a huge boat, but it just wont be able to move. You would have to make it with a support.
