Fairly new to the game and I checked through the bug reports a bit but didn't find anything about this..

When I removed my trade depot with a caravan in it they just left all their goods there and and waited their normal time and then left all goods behind..

There's lots of ways to "steal" from the caravan like that, but they'll remember that the trip wasn't profitable, because they compare the value of what they had when they entered the map to what they have when they leave.
