Water flowing into solid objects

I am not sure if anyone would care at this point, but I can't help but think that something unintended is happening with the way the, erm, 'dye', is carried by the water.

The story so far is that I dug a channel for my water wheels and to bring water into my fort, it was filling up, slowly. I think most of it had reached 4/7, and it was 7/7 for a good distance into the channel from the river. I closed the floodgates to let the water drain, and it did, although I cannot say for certain that it didn't drain into my farming operation rather than my outlet, I am thinking I may need to rethink my outlet if I want a sustained flow, but that is another issue. It drained enough for my dwarves to come out and clear the area, and I noticed that the blood from the battle flowed all the way into the closed floodgate. A similar thing happened earlier when a civilian was waylaid near the entrance, hence the map...

This is my init.txt, aside from turning weather and temperature off, I can't think of anything that might play a role

Vote (1) for the Urist scale!
I shall be eternally happy. I shall be able to construct elf hunting giant mecha. Which can pour magma.
Urist has been forced to use a friend as fertilizer lately.
