Dwarf Fortress problem with ATI Radeon card.
« on: March 19, 2009, 12:36:26 am »

It's not exactly a bug, but there isn't really a section for system errors. Anyway...

I recently had to buy a new video card since my old one wore out. Now, the one I had previously was a nVidia... GeForce 7600 I think, and Dwarf Fortress worked perfectly on that.

I now have an ATI Sapphire HD 3850 AGP card and it seems to cap the fps of Dwarf Fortress to the point where they move one square a second. Obviously hopelessly slow for playing, it also slows down the start movie to a like speed. This also happens with the start movies of a few other games (Namely the cinematic for Warhammer Online)

Don't suppose anyone else has had a similar problem and knows how to fix it?

1. Make sure your drivers are up to date.
2. Try this.

I'm pretty sure the video cards up to date. I have to get some updates from the Sapphiretech homepage since ATI doesn't support it or something.

I also tried the OpenGL version of Dwarf Fortress, that removed the menu and scrolling lag I was getting but the dwarves still all move slowly.

Enable the FPS counter in data/init/init.txt and see what it says during gameplay.

Also, if other games are also having problems, this is probably an issue with your new card.
