I posted this as an aside in another thread, but I think it's a good enough idea to get a thread of its own.

It would be nice if there was a noble who would go around 'ranking' dwarves in your fortress in various ways (attributes, skills, etc), and then produce a screen where you could go to see the top dwarves in each category.  This would make it easy for the player to, say, grab their next-most-highly-skilled dwarf for a particular job when they feel they need to put another dwarf on it.
