Accelerated Endgame
« on: March 11, 2009, 08:06:33 pm »

Right now, the endgame is boring. To solve that in the short term, I'm making it so you'll win if the President is L+, all the laws are L+, and the House, Senate, and Supreme Court are at minimum L controlled. This should speed up the game by letting you win earlier, not forcing you to wait forever while treading water once you've set things in motion.

I just got a better idea, actually: A new Constitutional amendment arising from Elite Liberal Frustration, enforcing term limits (one term!) on Congress and holding immediate elections for the entire Senate and the House upon ratification. The inevitable result is an enormous WAVE of victories in both the House and the Senate (as the equations will change so that incumbency bonuses are lost), which will in turn enable Congress to promptly propose the amendment to stack the Supreme Court. At that point, if you win the Presidency, the game is essentially yours.

Don't you think the CCS, the Stalinists, and other potential Organizations in the future, should get another "Constitutional amendment" to compenstate?

I like it, especially with the knowledge that the emergence of the National LCS would probably make the endgame significantly different, to the point where I consider these changes temporary.

I'd say currently, the game is over when you kill off the CCS.  Not that you can't lose after the death of the CCS, it's just that such losses are more due to impatience than anything else.

So, I agree that the game shouldn't end until the CCS are dead.  It just don't make sense.

Shouldn't there be a Liberal law to abolish the Senate? (or am I thinking of something else?)

There isn't really any push to abolish the Senate. You might be thinking of the Electoral College, but LCS doesn't model that. Though I could probably add it by modifying the ratification code for Constitutional Amendments.

The senate does dramatically favor conservatives however.  While it's true that the Dems currently control the senate, that was due to a very favorable climate and many GOP seats coming up for election at once.  Additionally in order to be competitive in conservative states, there democratic caucus in the senate is more conservative.  There's also the senate fillibuster.  Normally, that's not biased one way or another.  But traditionally, the fillibuster is used sparingly while the GOP in the last 2 years has adopted the approach of trying to filibuster every single law of consequence, meaning 41 votes hold as much power as 59.  Besides the Supreme Court, the senate is the least small-D democratic part of the federal government.  An elite liberal country might try to abolish this obstructionist body.

There is no fillibuster in LCS either.

Yeah, but the LCS senate is already obstructionist.

One thing that COULD be interesting

Is an Arch Conservative government could have a chance of instituting a House of Commons (or as a easier to understand name: "Lets give friends of the President money!")

Or maybe not... still it would be interesting... though perhaps going a bit too far from this game's Parody
