[40d] Embark without a wagon (Resolved)
« on: March 19, 2009, 06:40:38 pm »

I embarked on map just now, and my dwarfs have no wagon. All of it's contents, including the pack animals, are present however.

The map is pretty hilly; near the embark point, there is no flat area able to host the wagon for about 10 squares and several z-levels. From my stocks, I can see that everything I embarked with is present, except I don't get any free Tower-cap. :(

The mods I have applied are applicable to some default bodies, sand in sandy layers, economic stone selection, and uncut/deblock reactions. No changes were made to wagons, pack animals, or the objects I embarked with.

At least nobody is on fire this time. :)

UPDATE: My mistake - notch it up to player inexperience, I suppose. According to the posts below, my wagon-less experience is a feature: My dwarfs got hungry travelling to my embark location, and rushed to eat the nearest mushrooms not belonging to the embriotic fortress: the Tower Cap wagon. Besides, it wouldn't have helped me on the steep mountain anyway.

This happens when you spawn on a mountainside. I like to think of it as the wagon breaking apart while hurtling down the mountain.

Yes, when you're on a mountainside and your wheels snap off (causes wagon to be immobilized thus starting fortress life) I'm fairly certain something more is going to break before the wagon is stopped.
Or maybe the wagon kept on going and the dwarves threw all the contents out along with themselves.
Although in that case you'd need more of a spread.

Heh, that's a decent game explanation, but I don't think I'd enjoy that level of realism when I'm recovering goods from the beach of the island which my wagon couldn't swim to. :)

So, by the sounds of it this isn't really a bug? Should I change the thread topic then?

Yeah, its not really a bug. All it does is make you miss out on 3 chunks of wood, so its not too big of a deal.
