Doors and floodgates function the exact same way when hooked to a lever.  However,  floodgates are much slower than doors.  Because they do the same thing, they should be the same speed.

It's faster for a door to swing open than for a floodgate to raise, as if pulled up by a chain or something. Besides, it gives things a chance to get the heck out of there.

Yes, but if people want their floodgates to open faster, they may not know that doors are faster than floodgates.

Logical fallacy!   Floodgates, realistically, are quite a bit sturdier and massive than the average door.

Yeah, because a gremlin pulling the lever to a floodgate is much better than a gremlin picking the lock to a door.

Personally, I'd prefer having a gremlin pick the lock.  That way, I get the little bugger along with the rest of the casualties.
