need charcoal quickly
« on: March 13, 2009, 06:14:58 pm »

I am building an underwater fort out of clear glass blocks and I can’t get enough charcoal. If anyone has any way of getting a lot quickly I would really appreciate the help.

I think you can request both wood and lignite/bituminous coal as an import.

You could cheat, and add a reaction to your raws that makes a million charcoal out of nowhere.
If you have a cave river, you could hollow out your whole map to one giant tower-cap farm.
Other than that... damn, you're either daring or stupid or just a glutton for punishment. I would never try to run a glass industry sufficient for major construction without magma.

But... why do that when you could just make the glass blocks with the raws?

you can't add a reaction without re-genning, but you can change one of the existing ones. i'm not much of a modder, search for "free wood" or somesuch, you should be able to tweak that to make coal. (or just burn the wood into charcoal)

An existing reaction? I don't think i'm going to find adamantine any time soon. If I modify that one, could I do take something like used/unused cloth(thread, cloth, leggings, armor), throw it into the smelter, and then get charcoal from that?

I think I understand the reaction stuff, its specifying something like cloth leggings or cloth robes as a reagent that is getting me.

If you're modding the smelter, you may as well go for a reaction with no inputs. But you should be able to use cloth if you want. Not sure if you can make a reaction that'll accept any cloth item tho.

Don't need a regeant if you don't want one. Just remove the brackets, and presto. You will also want to remove the brackets around the [fuel] tag on your modded reaction. To make wood, all you really need is...

[REACTION:ADAMANTINE_WAFERS]
[NAME:make wood]
[SMELTER]
[PRODUCT:100:1:WOOD:NO_SUBTYPE:WOOD:GIANT_SHROOM]

Giant shroom being the games name for tower caps. You can change the red number to get more wood per reaction. Currently you will get one piece of tower cap per job.

If you wanna just skip the wood and go straight to producing lumps of charcoal...

[PRODUCT:100:1:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:COAL:CHARCOAL] -or- (You could put both in, if you want)
[PRODUCT:100:1:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:COAL:COKE]

Why just not make a reaction that instantly produces 50 stacks of green glass. (Or even better, glass blocks.) ::)
