[40d] Dissapearing soldier
« on: March 03, 2009, 12:29:12 pm »

I have a small fort (~35) and only had a 4 man army for stalling while I would close off the fort to protect the others.  Nice not a nice fate, but I'd yet to have an actual attack so everything was fine.

I got a batch of immigrants that brought be up to ~45 dwarfs so I decided to add a few to the squad of 4.  I look in and the leader is gone.  I checked the announcements and there was no alert of his death.  The coffins were empty of his corpse and there was no "deceased" label next to his name.  In fact, his name wasn't on the unit list at all.

He just vanished.

He was a marksdwarf, and in the immigrants group I got another marksdwarf.  Maybe the marksdwarf overwrote his save file or something?

He's still in the units list, or he's gone entirely from it?

Gone entirely.

He still has some announcements about him (Such and such has become a recruit, such and such has become a soldier, etc.) but that is it.  No death announcements either.

Are you sure you didn't rename him something else?

I just got another one and I thought I'd post it here rather than make a new topic.

There was a single olmmen that kept harassing my workers.  The FPS went from ~50 to 13.  I killed it and it went back up again.  Is this normal, or a glitch?

Sounds normal.  He was probably causing a lot of job cancellations, and lots of repaths as a result.  Although announcement spam might have played a role too.

Perhaps you should use http://dffd.wimbli.com/ to put up a save before (with the now-missing soldier) and a save after (without him/her).

I believe that if a creature is crushed under a bridge, they are completely erased off the unit list, so that might be it.
