Don't name Linux version .exe
« on: March 01, 2009, 04:42:05 pm »

In the Linux version of Dwarf Fortress, the executable is named "dwarfort.exe". On Linux, executables usually don't have an extension, so the executable should be named "dwarfort". Otherwise, people will get confused and think they accidentally downloaded the Windows version. In addition, many people (like me) have Wine installed. When a file with the .exe extension is executed, it is opened with Wine instead of being executed directly. So I think the executable on Linux shouldn't have the .exe extension.

Could you rename it and remove the .exe?

This has been discussed elsewhere; the binary needs to be tossed somewhere inobstrusive, so that nobody gets the idea of running it instead of the df script.
