Twisting magma pipes

We all know the common or garden magma tube, the heart of any metalsmithing operation, the source of the solution to any and all problems.
And face it, other than the stuff in it, it is boring.
Have magme pipes be less... vertical. More off shoots, more twisting and turning, that sort of thing. I am not a coder, I have no idea how to do this, this would by no means be a priority, and I did search before I posted this, I also know this post is short, but still.
Thoughts?

Next Version™ is slated to have improved underground features. What these will contain is unknown, but I'd be willing to wager that magma pipes will be diversified a bit.

In real live, magma pipes don't twist much. They pretty much do go straight up. Off-shoots, however, are something that do exist and should also be in df.
