Reclaiming a demon-ravaged fortress
« on: March 01, 2009, 11:18:24 am »

What is the best way to reclaim a fortress that was lost due to HFS?

The long story is spoilered below, but in short, I tried reclaiming with a sevently-strong army, who killed both the demons remaining in the fortress, but because they were all inexperienced soldiers, and all friends, the few losses the suffered sent them into an unrecoverable tantrum/madness spiral, and ended up having to abandon the fortress again.

Wow, I applaud your persistance. I think I would have given up on that fortress. Unless it took many months of real life months to build and organize with superprojects everywhere... Cleaning up the mess after reclaiming the fort will probably take some time.

An epic tale of dwarven determination. Frankly, I'd love to hear what happens to the new reclamation party.

The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

im familiar with tantrum spirals as spamming reclaimation parties is the only way. a single of their friends die and then they decide to kill more of their friends which makes no sense. reclaimation parties should be resilient against friends dying as they are soldiers or not to make all of them friends as i cant think 70 dwarves and everyone like each other.

Urist: Alright youngins, I'll tell you the story of this 'ere fortress. We first settled here with a group of seven that grew to nearly 50. They were torn apart by demons. Then another group of 70 trained fighters took out the demons. They tore eachother apart. The third time we had another party of 70, who made a good castle. It sank into the swamp. But the fourth time, nothing was ruined. This is hat we are leaving to you.
Kogan: Wait, so we are inheriting a structurally-unsound castle on fields of dead demons and our ancestors?
Urist, storyteller cancels tell story: giving a beating.

Sigged. That is awesome Duke.

Personally, i only bother reclaiming if the fort was relatively new, as its a pain in the ass to go through and assign jobs to 70 odd dwarves. On the other hand, those 70+ dwarves will make hauling all the forbidden shit back into your fort a lot easier.

Duke, would that be a referance to 'the quest for the holy sock'?

Replace sock with grail, and you have the reference. Although it was done from memory, so don't expect to see a perfect reference.
