challenge map
« on: March 04, 2009, 11:54:29 pm »

lets see whos tough enough to start a map with something nasty going on.
can you handle the terror? can you go to war with the elves? share some pics here of your mighty defenses bloodied from the fallen corpses of your enemies, or littered with the bones of the undead. how do you build your fort when you know you might be attacked early on? this is real df.

start a map either in a high savage evil zone or at war with someone at embark.

this is how i start, at war with the elves.

I shall build a statue in your honour, inaluct. The Dwarves of Outpost Balcatten, "Tonechannels", salute you.

show some pics of your early defenses?
And yes, good luck.

who else will start an evil/war map? buncha wimpy dwarfs in here?

the elves have attacked me. it was easy to detect, the game freezes and shifts view 'for no reason'. so i pull underground and start the training HAHA yes i said start. so by the time the elves appeared i had 5 dwarf wrestlers and 7 cage traps at my entrance.

i now have 3 dead elves on my doorstep, 7 caged elves... 2 dead dogs... and one dead gem/stone crafter dwarf. ONE single elf got past the defences and the wrestlers and carried out the assassination.

no immigrants have braved the trip yet. things look bleak, because i dont think theres much left of my civilization, and now to have lost a dwarf...
my big money maker too. damn. a weaker man would give in :D

I can never find anyone other than goblins at war with me.  And all the evil locations are boring.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.

just increase the number of volcanoes and evil areas when you create a world using advanced parameters.

or do the orc thing? maybe i should have suggested that as an option at the start eh?

someone wanna tell us how youre doing this orc stuff?

anyways you have those options lego, i can tell youre bored of fighting goblins 5 years into settling down :D

Gen a world, look through the legends until you find the race you want at war with you and then re-gen the world forcing it to stop generation at a year when the war was happening.

That should work I would imagine.

I rarely ever start in any different map, alway at war from the beginning with both orcs and goblins. My early defenses are usually Stone Fall Traps and champion Wrestlers armed with obsidian swords. Work up the the moment that I get a Siege/Ambush every season with little or no immigrants at which point any lost dwarf is a grave loss.

If you use Maydays tileset there is a little easter egg in the first picture for you. When you see it you'll shit bricks.

Yep, I didn't embark near a human town on, she(the human) came as a trader in a caravan. Unfortunately the caravan was slaughtered by Orcs while at the Depot. All the humans died except for her, she was left totally unharmed. The wagon was scuttled, she had no means to return home and, as long as she lived, the humans wouldn't accuse me of robbing their caravan, the goods just stayed in the depot.

For a year she would just stay there lying on the ground occasionally moving around a bit. I felt sorry for her so i built a house around her and added furniture. When the orcs come I forbid the door to keep the house safe.
