Ver.28_181_40d
1. Nobles demand items made of bismuth, which is impossibe and leads to lots of unavoidable hammerings and jail time.
2. Marksdwarves trained in wrestling will not shoot crossbows or pick up bolts (and yes, I have plenty of bolts).  They will, however, use crossbows as bludgeons after picking them up.  I suspect that this one has already been reported, but I didn't find it on the reported bugs list.

edit:  I should also mention that I trained them in wrestling with shields equipped and tried to solve the bug by letting them live as civilians for a time, telling them to remove armor and shields, and forbidding and marking for dumping items on them they were stubborn about not dropping.  They also had quivers if that's relevant.  Happened to 4 marksdwarves.

The first of these is a known bug.  It can be solved by making a bar of bismuth, which counts as an item.  The second; not so sure.  What are these bolts made of?

They're made of wood, bone, iron, and steel.  Other marksdwarves didn't have the same problem so long as I didn't train them in wrestling.  The affected dwarves sparred in barracks instead of practicing at shooting range and wouldn't use bolts in combat or even hold bolts in their quivers.  I eventually moved two to civilian life and the other two are melee.  One of them won't drop his crossbow cause it's legendary and runs around bashing gobbos with it.

Ah, I believe that was a bug from version 39x.  What version are you playing with?

He said 40d in the OP.  The wrestlers-using-equipment problems are definitely still present in this version -- they've been widely attested here and I experienced them myself.

*slaps own face*
D'oh!  I feel stupid.  Well, that's cleared up then (sort of - it hasn't been fixed).  But we sorta know what the deal is now.

I can almost guarantee that the marksdwarves have a random piece of their sparring partner's clothing stuck in the hand with the crossbow. This unfortunately prevents them from using the crossbows as crossbows. It happens with woodcutting and mining too, iirc. The only way to fix it is to search for (in the stocks menu) and forbid or dump the offending item or to injure the dwarf untill he drops it. Some items (like the backpacks that made my marksdwarves stuck) cannot be removed however, so they are stuck as wrestlers.
