Modding wooden blocks
« on: February 20, 2009, 06:35:33 pm »

hello, i'm new.
i don't know if this is the right place.
Most of you know that from a single log of wood (in real life) you can obtain several planks.
now, i've tried to modding the game for being able to get more wood blocks from a single log, but in reaction_standard.txt seems that what i added don't work.
i searched in all the files for anything concerning blocks, but found nothing (even searched in the forum)
i even copy a cheat from the wiki of DF and readapted for wood blocks
done this in a old and in a new world
i don't know if this is important, but i'm playing as humans. (for building a village, that's why i was trying to mod the game)
can someone explain me a way to do this thing?

i add what i wrote in reaction_standard.exe if it could be usefull

There's your problem, friend-o. You have it set to [CARPENTER'S WORKSHOP]. You can only have it take place in the smelter I believe. You might want to check the wiki or something. Also, I don't think wooden blocks are much use at all.

the reasons i want to use wood blocks are:
1) the idea of a village made of wooden planks is more appealing, with all the works that are necessary to turn logs into more usabe planks, instead of using stone that's is basically unlimited, i prefer to use it in walls, palaces and anything military related.
2)it's just weird that from a oak log i get only ONE block.

however, thanks for the help ;D.

EDIT: it's a shame i can't use the carpenter workshop, it will just add a lot more realism...

Technically, I think you get 1 set]/b] of wooden blocks from a log. Enough to build one wall or floor. It's not supposed to represent a single block.

i'm getting weird results.
i created a block with 1 weight, with no material (only "blocks") and if a place a wall with it, it take the colour of the terrain above.
strangely, i think to the elves when i saw a green wall.

EDIT: solved, error in reaction_standard.exe
