Problems with preparing for the journey
« on: February 14, 2009, 04:34:56 am »

Hello,

I just discovered this game, and I really do want to try it. But I have a problem that might stop my attempts to play in its tracks. I apologize if I am putting this in the wrong section.

I am using the 0.28.181.40d version of DF (and I am running on Vista), and I am going off of a startup guide on the wiki. I found a decent place for my fortress, and among other things the guide suggested that I take away a few items that I probably don't need. The problem? The game will not let me add or subtract anything. All other key inputs work fine, but when it comes to adding or taking away items or skills, it simply will not register.

Does anyone have any suggestions they can offer me to get around this problem? Thanks very much in advance.

- & + on the numpad does not work?
Check numlock if it's on.

Okay, I feel stupid now. I'm on a laptop, so I never thought to use that until you mentioned it.

Thanks!

I'm playing on a laptop, the fn key requiring - and + are right next to the arrows.  So handy.

I'm playing on a laptop, I gave up on using the numpad a long time ago and mapped every keypad-related key to someplace more sensible.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

also on a laptop, never re-mapped anything.

i find people who don't know how the Fn key works ammusing/pathetic. i suppose that makes me an elietist nerd... but no offense, i can't change my sense of humor.

I'm on a laptop. Remapped the secondary up/downs to insert/delete and home/end. The home/end as secondary page up/down doesn't work well on some menus such as the labours menu as it moves the cursor diagonally for some reason. Other menus, such as material selection for construction, work fine and don't move the cursor.
