the problem there kanil, is that he won't wake up to move anywhere, and he's in a 3x3 room. therefore, I follow that theory, only with 9 cage traps.

Right, I realize it wouldn't work in your situation, but if you ever wanted to cage another dwarf for any reason, that's (imo) the easiest way.

A much easier way to cage a dwarf is to build a 1x1 room with a cage trap and lock him in there until he decides to sleep.

Yanno, the two times I've tried that it didn't work for me.   Both times the bastard hammerer refused to go to sleep and died of thirst instead.
