Hmmm, I'll stick with the falling floor, works fine enough for me.

Could I prevent the floor-crashing thing?

Yeah, I think you just need to make sure there are solid walls on the level below, not just a thin floor.

You can also drown the merchants to kill them and keep their stuff.
Done, next one will be a drowning chamber :D

Aaaand I'm nearly done with the drowning chamber ^^

And now I'm going to see if they'll drown in the depot :)

EDIT: I'll move the actual testing up to tomorrow, as it is way too late for me now. I've tested the mechanics and they all worked, getting a nice 7/7 in the complete chamber, deflooding worked nice also, could have been quicker, but there is no need for that as I have to clear the whole space after my ... visitors :)

i built a wonderfull flooding depot once. it used my mined out first level to get rid of the water. the trick is you have to cap  it so the animals pulling the wagons die to and not just swim around for a few years.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

There is a single answer to the title question, and that answer is 'more'. The answer is always 'more'. The whole reason to get Elf siegers is to fulfill that answer once you run out of caravans.
