Computer Needs to Stop Beeping!
« on: January 30, 2009, 11:39:23 am »

So, funny story, but how does one stop their laptop from beeping? It beeps at very inconvenient times, making it impractical, such as upon saving, hitting outside a box that I need to close first, scrolling too far down a page, or just for no reason.

I have no idea how to do this, so any help anyone has will be helpful.

(I assume you're running win xp or vista?)Double click on the volume control icon in the lower-right corner and set the PCBeep to mute.
OK?

Oddly enough, there is no speaker button in the corner, because I don't have a sound card, and all attempts to find the PCBeep volume control are failures. I checked under control panel and I can click the sound there, but no options are available to press.

And yes, I am running on XP.

I think I know how you might be able to kill all the weird beeping sounds. If you go to control panel -> sounds, speech, and... -> Adjust the system volume, you'll get something like this
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As far as I can tell, this looks like the place where you can screw with all those noises. Bear in mind I haven't tested this at all.

Hmmm... without a sound driver, I don't know if there's a way to get to those options. Maybe find a sound driver?

Also, yeah, just cut the PC speaker wires.
