My military dwarfs hardly ever spar. They seem to do it quite a bit a while ago but recently the only dwarves I regularly see are 2 champions.
My army consists of 24 dwarves, 6 are champions, 8 are marks dwafs. (which i see shooting as much ammo as i have). But the other military dwarves seem to have given up sparing recently. Iv tried designating barackes from bed and armour stands, inside and out. I know it works because there is usually 2 champions sparing. There job is usually"soldier" and i usually see my army hanging around my meeting hall. Is there anyway to encourage them to spar more? Or am I missing something.
(total of 232 dwarves if that makes any difference)

Check to make sure they don't have any nerve or lung injuries.

nope, no injuries.
Most of the miliatary has never seen combat  due to high death rates pre-traps then no deaths after.
has their job "Soilder", dark musterdey colour, got anything to do with it.?
They are all defenatly not on duty.

Did you make sure they didn't have any light gray wounds at the bottom of their wounds screens?  You'll often have to scroll down.

Sometimes they get injured during sparring, and these usually aren't on the first page of the 'wounds' section.  Did you try scrolling through that page?

 dam thats like 20 dwarfes that have nervous injuries.... . Is there anyway to stop them damaging their spines during sparing? I have recently forged 30 sets of iron armour, will that help?
I want to recruit a new military without the spine injuries

Yes, the iron armor will definitely help.  Also, sparring with spears is especially dangerous, and swords somewhat less so.  It's safest to train them on wrestling (equipped with shields) first, so they can get good at blocking/dodging sparring blows gone wrong.

cool il try that, I had 2 spear dwarfes so ill get a load of awsome wrestlers first, and stick to the hammers and axes.
Iv got 7 heros/champions with minor spine injuries ^^. Atleast its still possible for them to fight.

Haha, yeah, those injured champions can finish their training by murdering hordes of goblins.

Ugh had this issue in the beginning until I finally figured it out.  Go to the squad in the military screen(that you want to spar), press V for view squad, make sure it's status is standing down!!!! Otherwise they won't spar
