Where da Goblins at
« on: February 08, 2009, 09:36:47 pm »

When/how do goblins attack my fort? I've been here for several years and the most I've seen are a couple kobold thieves that just run away the instant they enter my fort.

I even went out of my way to find an 'evil' zone to build this time and so far all it's meant is a couple of zombie goats in one corner of the map.

I've tried embarking on an area with a goblin city but if it's touching even one tile it wont let me start there so...

how do i get goblins? or monsters? right now this is too easy, i've got what seems like unlimited everything and I dont feel like making some epic building

If your displayed/exported wealth is below 7k then they won't bother.
Goblin snatcher thieves won't attempt abductions if you don't have any children or babies.
Also, any city or fortress you start in will have Friendly occupants. They'll help repel sieges and won't mind if you take all their stuff.

The game doesn't go into hard mode until you're decently prepared.
Make lots of good stuff.

Or you could just install Orc Mod and generate a new world. Then you'll have plenty of sieges.

Before you embark from the site selection screen, make sure that the goblin civilization exists, can access your site, and is at war with your civilization.  You can tell all this by checking if there's the word "goblins" with a red line next to it when you tab to the civ list on the site selection screen.

huh, my last fortress got to 100k+ wealth and still never saw a single goblin. ive since generated 5 new worlds, and none of them show the goblins as red, just gray.

i just wanna fight goblins without modding the game :(

ah, well i figured out the 'lack' of the red line, the gfx pack im using apparently turns a dash into a microscopic smattering of red pixels.

time for a new fort, after flooding my old one with magma of course.

anyone else have trouble playing for very long without being overcome by the urge to flood your fort, with magma, water or both? it's sim city all over again
