The one true hardcore elf
« on: February 01, 2009, 02:26:14 pm »

Something that happened to me while testing my all new pit-o-doom entrance defense:

I had two bridges built over a 7 levels deep pit, which i could flood and drain at will via rechanneling the cave river. yes, i do love more "alternative" defense systems. especially if they are self-cleaning ;)

now there i sat, waiting impatiently for some goblin raiders to test my evil device. but then, instead some elf traders arrived. i just thought "longear will do. PIT OF DOOM!", gave order to retract the bridge and hurled the whole caravan into their gory demise.

but when i checked the bottom of the pit, which was, as intended covered in elf, i noticed HIM:
the one true hardcore elf.
his legs, skull and arms were broken. he had suffered some brain thrauma, broke his spine and suffered red wounds to lower and upper body. his left lung and stomach were blasted.
But he was on his... jaws(?) CRAWLING FOR THE ENTRANCE, LEAVING POOLS OF BLOOD AND VOMIT ON HIS WAY! AND HE MADE IT!

ladies and gentlemen, i just lost my faith in the world. if this elf reproduces, were all screwed  ;)

Somehow, I suspect even an elf would have a hard time finding a mate as a brain-damaged quadriplegic.

But wow, when they say immortal, they mean immortal.

I did this with my falling-Depot shamelessly stolen off another forum member. One elf survived, but he passed out on a weapon trap on his way out.

Yep, elves can be surprisingly hardy at times, though most of the time, they are sissies.

I remember in adventure mode when i attacked a elf retreat with a dwarf, aiming to wipe out every elf there. (which i did)

However, a elf swordsman i encountered there took an incredible amount of damage, without dieing for some time.  The extent of his injuries were something like this:

My first attack was hacking his lower body, which made him vomit, then i hacked off his right upper leg, badly cut his left leg, and badly sprained his right hip. He then passed out. Next i wrestled and broke all his other limbs.

At this point i left him on the ground, while i went to kill the other elves, as i was sure he would bleed to death. Yet after 10 mins of elf killing he was still lying there, passing in and out of consciousness.

I never got to actually kill the unfortunate swordsman, however, as an elf bowman shot me in the head, poking out my eye and throat, and i bled to death.

I made a new adventurer, and revisited the retreat to kill the last few stragglers. Among them was the swordsmand i had so grievously wounded, still passing in and out of consciousness.  I decided to finish him this time, but just would not die! I hacked off his hand, badly cut his spleen, and mangled/broke most of his remaining limbs. He was eventually killed when i hacked his head off.

Yeah, i'd say he was a pretty hardcore elf.

*edit i have the entire log if anyone interested.

sometimes the goblins are led by legendary elves with +iron mauls+ and quality iron armor. it happened to me once. many many dwarves died. elves large size +stupid stupid agility + actually wearing some good armor with good weapons = carnage. only a cage trap stopped the rampage.

and 7 z levels are not enough. i did something like that for my first pet disposal tower, and too many pets survived as horrible cripples. i actually dont like being mean to kittens and puppies and particularly horses, i just wanted my fps back. normally now i use a 15 z level drop for the sake of kindness and entertainment. little bits of the creatures who fall in can bounce as high as the surface on my big tower + deep pit combination.

ja... i just found that out myself  :P

New survey shakes pit trap engineering world!
2 out of 17 goblins survive a 7 story fall!

wait... i could make the pit an overflow pond with horrible horrible things... yay (=

PS: What? Elves educated by goblins? Bet that makes them more sociable (not eating people and stuff) ;)

its due to child snatching.

children snatched by goblins are raised as goblins, and are, to all intents goblins shaped like elves and dwarves and things. this is completely awesome. children kidnapped from your fort can arrive years later with attacking armies.

there are stories out there of goblin towers populated entirely by elves or dwarves, as over time the original goblins have died out, and the goblin civ, while still goblin, has no actual goblins in it.

elves who are allowed to wear iron armor and start with good iron weapons are actually quite tough.

Although goblins do eat people, so goblin-snatched elf children will still learn this habit.

I love this game for the fact that, in adventure mode, i can get my axe stuck in a cyclops, fail to retrieve it, and then strangle the cylops to death.

tis great. i once lost my axe in a tentacle demon in an old fort after an epic battle against a demon crowd that saw the slaying of all my human minions. i could not stand without being knocked over, so i was crawling away frantically with the demon after me, till i found a random iron arrow left over from the fight. threw it into the demons head, stunning it, then retrieved my axe and butchered the bastard.

this game is great. you don't get that kind of detailed combat scenario anywhere else.

Adventurer: You are indeed brave you silly longear but the fight is mine.
*Elf Swordsman regains consciousness
Elf Swordsman: Oh had enough eh?
