Alchemy Job Skill
« on: February 01, 2009, 08:05:14 am »

I recently created every job skill in weaponry.
Including the ones not usually listed, like TRACKING and ALCHEMY and MAGIC_NATURE...

...for fun, I added alchemist and druid (magic nature) to the job lists available to my citizens.

I was surprised, however, to see Alchemy as an assignable job once I embarked in fortress mode. Did I just miss it before? What does it do? are there any jobs available that were hidden (ie. not in the raws?) or is he just a glorified soap-maker right now.

Yep, just a glorified soap-maker.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Druids are useless.  They're just Elven leaders and have a high MAGIC_NATURE skill.  The only use for such a skill is faking magic with ranged weapons.

But having a staff that gives skill in Magic Nature instead of Mace ends up with a dwarven druid... which is kinda cool. I was hoping the Alchemist Tongs weapon would actually have a USE once he was leveled up. I guess not.

...and I still really want to know what the TRACKING skill signifies.

It's used by world-gen adventurers.

to do what?
because my Adventurer has a trackers dagger. which uses tracking... so I want to know the use of nice little skills he may be picking up.

While only used by world-gen adventurers, enabling Tracking for your civ will cause all migrants to start with Ambushing (IIRC;  I don't think they get the actual Tracking skill from it).  So you'll never see anyone with the job title Peasant unless they came to your fortress as a child.

Completely useless, but interesting.

that is so frikking awesome!

ninja migrants.

"the peasants are here"

"AAAA! Where'd you come from?!"

Also - using that knife in adventure mode just got better. I'm confused, though, what is SNEAK, then?
