I did mention the old PC was on the opposite side of the country :P

This will take longer than I thought. Accessing the backup and system restore centre in the control panel (seemed like a logical place to start) brought me no joy whatsoever. Damn thing said i had no backups apart from two for today. I had no option to backup to my computers original settings, does anyone here know how I do this? Also, I don't appear to have the disk with the system backup program on it, so doing it with what is on my computer is the only option.

...Please don't tell me i need to install something to restore my computer, or I'll go berserk.

Turns out to access the system restore (basically a reformat without having to reinstall the stuff the computer came with) I had to press F12 on the boot screen. I never would've found it if it weren't for a BSOD. Anyways, I appear to have nuked whatever the problem was off my computer, so I'm now going through the long process of sticking everything back on. And this time round, I'm keeping Norton (at least until the trial expires).
