Feudal game searching
« on: January 24, 2009, 08:32:56 am »

Hi everyone!
Lately, I started to become excited by feudal setting.
Maybe because I read The Song of Ice and Fire of Martin and I'm reading the Dune saga (just started, no spoiler!  ;D), but I want to play a game in which you are a some kind of noble that lead his men through wars and intrigues to the victory.  :P
No RTS, preferably I search a game in which your men are valuable, and not plain amounts of resources.

For example, this game
http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/264/Sword+of+the+Samurai.html
is almost what I'm seeking, but it seems somehow limited.
Perhaps due to its age, but you've only a goal: an accession to the title of Shogun. I prefer something more free.

Anyway, I accept all the suggestions. ASCII, old games, what you want. :)

Lords of the realm was my favorite. The first one. Also, try Emperor of the fading suns, if you can handle bugs and micromanagement. Both are turn based. LOTR is middleage Britain, EOFS is Dune-like 4X.

Crusader kings is alright.

Sword of the Samurai is fantastic!  It show cases how good design and cutting edge are not the same thing.  My favorite moment so far however:
I am sneaking into another lords castle.  A guard comes round the corner so I shoot him with an arrow.  Another guard sees the corpse and comes running, so I shoot him too..  Then a third guard comes up to the corner where the last two died and he...

...DOESN'T go round the corner like an idiot who wants to get his dumb ass shot.  The guards are actually programed to react like someone who would say "Geez, there's two corpses right next to each other with arrows sticking out.  I don't think I'll make it three."

Given the vast number of fps where enemies will suicidally charge through a door that's jam packed full of corpses, I found this to be enormously satisfying.

Anyone else having trouble with Sword of the Samurai? Every time a major character dies, the game freezes up. After that crash, the game locks up on the red opening screen.

Playing a new copy of the game works, but nothing else I do seems to work.

Edit: Nevermind, got it. Just wait for the screen to die. It'll happen EVENTUALLY.

Yeah, the good news is that the screen hang only happens once every time you load up the game.  But if you exit out and enter back in, you'll get the same bug again.

I have to say, Sword of The Samurai is a great game.
I greatly enjoy the sword duels, they are simplistic but challenging.

I could never really figure out what I was doing in Sword of the Samurai.  I guess I should have read the manual.

More like "lord of running over shit with a horse"

And "lord of twenty headshots with twenty crossbow bolts at two hundred feet".  Immensely satisfying though.  Nothing beats a headshot with a ballistic-arc weapon in first person.

Play as an Infantry Spearman for hardmode tbh.
