Inputting into Fields in 40d9
« on: January 12, 2009, 10:55:31 pm »

So, I have this strange error when I go to input any data into fields.  Let's say I want to change the name of a map setting that I design for a world to "preferred"

When I push "t" to change the title, a "5" appears first, and then after i type, it ends up looking like this:

"5p5r5e5f5e5r5"

basically, it puts a five after each of my letters.  Now, clearly, nothing else is doing this.

Edit: Using 40d.

I am using a wireless optical pro keyboard and mouse combo from microsoft.  Is there something with that that might be interfering?

Edit 2: I went back and tried 39f and no error.  So apparently, these must be a bug of some sort at work?

Edit 3: No problems in plain 40d.  Just 40d9 has that error that I can find.  I downloaded that through the developer's page.

40d9 is extremely alpha version of DF right now.  What's happening is that some Open GL guys have been optimizing the display code for dwarf fortress, and right now that's being tested by the community as a whole (wittingly, hopefully) to make sure there are no terrible problems cropping up on all the various graphics cards and legacy systems.  There's another run being taken at the whole keyboard handling approach soon;  although I haven't read a post about your particular problem, there have been several problems with character entry.

40d is the last version that is merely alpha-as-per-usual in the usual sense.  None of the gameplay code has been changed since then, although if you have an older computer you may find it to be noticeably slower.
