[40d]Village apparently forgets dragon is nearby
« on: January 07, 2009, 07:14:44 pm »

So I made a pocket world to test something, but found something more interesting, a dragon very nearby.  After taking the quest and finding it(Dragons are never in their caves...  I had to wander the world checking migrants for it until I came back and "Creature" was an available destination), I was defeated.

I rolled up a new guy, and tried again, but this time I can't get the quest.  The mayor keeps saying they're untroubled, and the dragon is again not in his cave.  It also doesn't have the option to go straight to him.

Did he leave?  Is he flying around somewhere?  Did he die from the eye I cut out?

Is this a bug, or am I just missing something?  Thanks.

Maybe they don't know that your previous adventurer has failed yet, so the mayor's thinking "well, it would be pointless to send this guy out there too if the first one's going to take care of it. Plus then I might have to pay both of them... nah, screw it"

I guess the mayor is forgetting that he never pays adventurers anyway.  :-\

I think it's a vastly amusing thought that elephants are so afraid of heights that when Dwarves invented the Z-axis, they couldn't bear to face dwarves in combat anymore.

Well, a year takes place between each new adventurer. Maybe the dragon was killed by someone else? You could check the legends...

Checked the legends, the dragon is still alive.  I made several new characters and no one is giving a dragon-related quest.

Has the dragon actually caused any trouble except for killing your adventurers?  You should try joining a religion, and then getting killed by the dragon.  That might be enough to get the dragon as an enemy of the civ.

Hello!

I rarely use pocket worlds, so I am not sure. Is it possible that there is a cave that is out of the area of effect of the town where you were trying to get the quest? If so, where were you when you encountered the dragon in relation to the cave and the town?

My point is, in previous versions, if you encountered a named creature (or a creature earned a name by killing your adventurer), that creature automatically got moved to a nearby cave. At least that is how I remember it. So, maybe you encountered the dragon on the road and after the killing, the game resettled it to the nearest cave and thus officially out of reach of the villagers - seemingly solving their troubles.

Have you tried to find the dragon, even without the quest?

The same thing happened to me yesterday. I believe it was a small or smaller world, not a pocket world, though.

My adventurer took on a dragon slaying quest from a human Something Lord, and promptly got killed. Naturally, I wanted revenge, so I created a new character and tried to get the quest. No go. I was still determined, though, so I gathered some helpers and visited the cave to extract bloody vengeance, quest or no. I spent about one game day exploring and waiting around for the thing to show up, but it seemed to have vanished. Again, I was out for blood, so I located my other adventurer's site of battle (the piles of ashes were rather telling). In a surprisingly short period of time, the dragon showed up and mangled a maceman I'd brought with me.

So, yeah, I don't know why the human Lord forgot about the horrific dragon, but it was still there. Oh, and since he'd killed my other adventurer, he was listed as an enemy of a nation, but probably not the one which had originally offered the quest.

Sometimes you succeed in your goals and sometimes you and everyone around you is murdered by a gigantic spider.

C'est la vie
