More control over the error log (Meta-game/bug finding)
« on: January 29, 2009, 07:02:30 am »

Hi!

This is a somewhat odd suggestion for a meta-game feature, but I think it would help with bug reporting/searching.

The suggestion is making it possible to suppress the "Random Buffer Overload" in the error log. It just causes the error log file to explode in size, making it unwieldy.

Right now, I have a re-installed version of 40d. I have genned 7 worlds altogether, played one fortress for 10 years with only 10 dwarves in it (although quite a few animals in between). Now, I have started playing a new fortress having just reached the first Elven caravan.

My error log file is already 2.46 MB in size, most of which taken by the "Random Buffer Overload" report spawned massively during each world generation, it seems.

With 2.46 MB, that is a small log; I already saw logs with nearly 30MB, all just this one repetitive report.

Because of this, I have actually stopped considering the error log to be of any use as it simply too bloated. Therefore, I would suggest having the ability to suppress this report.
