Lifevis? What? Where? Why?
« on: January 03, 2009, 02:14:17 am »

Subject says it all. I've seen it mentioned, but what is it? It seems to be a replacement/update for 3Dwarf, but it's not on the almighty wiki. So where can it be found? And why was it made? What's wrong with 3Dwarf?

EDIT:oops, this should be in General Discussion...

EDIT2: My questions have been mostly answered:
What? A real-time replacement for 3Dwarf, that can display objects in adition to terrain.
Where?  http://dwarvis.googlecode.com
Why? Because it's AWESOME.

That's interesting. Wonder why I haven't heard of that before.

I'll stick with 3Dwarf for now, though.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Well, the reason to be interested in it is that, if I remember right, lifevis is realtime.

Yeah, but it looks like it requires a lot of other things to be downloaded, that tutorial video is refusing to load(to tell you the truth, I can't really stand video tutorials for some reason), and I just use 3Dwarf to take pictures anyway. Also, I like the look of 3Dwarf better for some reason.

Maybe I'll take a look at after the next release of DF, since I highly doubt someone will update 3Dwarf now that a "superior" utility is out.

Holy CARP! This is AWESOME!

That said, I agree with Unteligent: 3Dwarf does look better. But Livevis shows all buildings and workshops, and items, and creatures. Admittedly, buildings and workshops mostly look like red cubes, items are blue blobs, and creatures are tiny pink... things. But people are working on it, I might even help out some.

And it's just a single download: unrar it and you're good2go!

I looked at the vids ... WOW!

Maybe by 2050 we'll all be playing DF in full real-time 3d.   :o

3D DF will make Crysis feel inadequate.

2D DF already makes Crysis feel inadequate.

Fixed that for you
