Obsidian farming and underground vs. aboveground
« on: December 28, 2008, 01:32:20 pm »

How does created obsidian react with the light/dark tags? On tile attributes
So I know from the Wiki that:
1) A tile which is made light cannot (currently) be made dark again
2) Natural walls/floors blocks the "ray" which makes a tile count as light
So these things together, will obsidian made from magma and water block tiles below it from turning aboveground?
Code: [Select]
OOO
GGG
Obsidian made over natural ground.
The obsidian is counted as Inside Light Aboveground, the unmined ground is Inside Dark Subterranean.
Code: [Select]
OOO
GSG
Is the stair counted as light or dark?
Does anyone know or will I have to make something of my own to test this?

I'll test it, been wondering about it myself and got the right location to do it :)

From my recollection, you can't undo lighted tiles currently. And stairs underground that's not channeled out above counts as dark.

You can't undo light.
But artificial obsidian will prevent tiles below it from becoming light - if they are dug out after creating the obsidian layer.

That's what I was trying to find out. How sure of it are you? As in, "Read it somewhere, I think" or "Tried it out, that's how it works"?

No, I think what Refar meant is that the new "Artificial" obsidian works as well as the prior (soil?) floor at blocking the "light"- but it won't remo'e it any more than building a floor would, if you already exposed it to "the hated sun".

Yes. That's what i mean, an i am pretty sure of that - my dwarves dug the current fort completely into artificial obsidian (that they made).
