Hi, I got a small fortress up and running. But I still don't get how farming works and if I'm doing it right.

I have read most guides but with no luck...

This is how I have it;



I have a grower dwarf but she does nothing, she just has 'no job', so no seeds are being planted.

It is summer btw... thanks in advance if anyone knows the problem.

(v)iew select your dwarfs (p)references > (l)abor and make sure farming is enabled on your grower still.

Next view your fortress status (z) scroll over and select kitchen and see if you have any of the seeds in question to plant.

Lastly, make sure your grower has access to both the seeds and the farm plot.  Check your (O)rders and make sure dwarfs are allowed to go outside.

And disable fertilization.  Not that has anything to do with it, but you probably don't have the required potash currently to fertilize in the first place.

Also watch what season it is.  I usually set up all four seasons at once, to get them to plant.
