The Dwarf Fortress POEM!
« on: December 21, 2008, 08:21:32 pm »

..or whatever that rhyme may be called. English is not my primary language, but I'm pretty good at making poems (or rhymes or whatever.)
So...
Theres something in this mountain,
something working hard,
stone is flying like a fountain,
to keep the fortress smooth like lard!

The goblins, the goblins, the goblins are here,
but dwarves, no, they have no fear
hacking away at the greenish band
goblin blood is splashed on sand

But oh, here come their mighty trolls
back from the wall their thunder revolves
it doesen't matter - the stone, he rolls
the trolls are buried while howling like wolves

And then, amidst the bloody mess,
evolves Iliot, the baroness
furied by the lack of leather
and of course the piss-poor weather,
grabs a sword, swings it with rage
quickly she is thrown into a cage,
death toll: sixteen proud, mighty, sturdy men
such is the life in the dwarven mountain.

Constructive criticism is wanted, of course.

Now, if we could only mod Giant War Eagles to carry crossbows, we could do strafing runs on the elves who sold the eagles to us in the first place.

Pretty good all in all.  Some of the rhythms seem a little awkward, but since I don't have a poetic bone in body it doesn't seem fitting to complain.

Very good, but I don't think 'revolves' and 'wolves' rhyme. I'm not quite sure.

I always imagine my engravers putting little Latin (or Old Dwarvish) mottos under their historical engravings in whatever the Dwarf equivalent of haiku is...

-annum 201-
Seven dwarves arrive,
Striking the earth for shelter
from the winter's chill

-annum 202-
New migrants and elves:
Can we sell our soap-maker
for some training swords?

-annum 203-
Things have gotten grim:
dwarves without beer throw tantrums.
Stop! It's hammer time.

...etc., etc.
