Waterwheel's & Magma Flow's
« on: December 10, 2008, 01:41:00 am »

Is it possible to build waterwheels from magma proof materials and build them in a magma flow to generate power? I know its easily done with water, but that seems less dwarfy somehow.

Nope, all waterwheels are wood, which from what I recalls, will burn down. Hopefully next version might have metal waterwheels.

I built a waterwheel in a river and then used Tweak to transform the entire river into lava.  The wheel didn't burn down, but it didn't generate anymore power either.

One way to test without tweak:

Modify wood to tolerate a temperature above magma.
Make a perpetual lava flow using pumps.
Construct this new fireproof wood wheel in the flow.

Isn't wood hardcoded?

This is why we need to test these things.

Question has already been asked (and supposedly tested). Reference below thread:

So there's that, as well. It looks like the only chronic problems that water can't cure are nausea and cave spider bites.
Which, coincidentally enough, can be cured by magma.

Hmmm, that is a shame, definitely needs to be rectified in a future version. Thanks anyway for the answers and sorry to repeat old threads.

Not even enough details to say if they even succeed in finding out anything, but I does suspect that magma currently isn't programmed to 'transmit' power like water, due wood issue in first place. I really hope that in future there're metal waterwheel that can run off magma  ;)

Heck, metal waterwheels in general make sense. Much better than wood.

Although magmawheels do sound very dwarven.

Not your fault if its a repeat - the old thread wasn't exactly phrased in such a way as to give the reader any idea they were reading about magma-wheels.
