No one are friends...
« on: December 11, 2008, 04:36:45 pm »

In my fortress, it's been 7 years and the only people who have "friends" are the orignial seven that started the fort.  Everyone else just has passing aquantice with just about everyone except for the children for parents and siblings and the baroness and her consort have just a lover or "passing aquantice" I do have 23 children in the fort and it's only out of 120 dwarves...  I dunno, maybe they like their "friends with benefits" arrangement...

*edit* Oh ya, and I've never seen a party even though I have meeting places that are large enough to hold the whole entire fortress...

Are you keeping everyone busy all the time? That may be your problem. But really, why do you want them to have friends? They're better as foul tempered little drones, IMO.

Having friends only leads to bad times when you need to start recruiting sprite fodder.

"Having faith" that the bridge will not fall, implies that the bridge itself isn't that trustworthy. It's not that different from "I pray that the bridge will hold my weight."

Friends is generally not a great thing as it means more and easier tantrums once someone dies.

Parties only happen at rooms made from recreational buildings (statues, cages). If you have an i-designated meeting hall, no parties will occur, though dwarves will usually go there when idle.

And yes, socialization doesn't happen if your dwarves are busy, and it isn't exactly a priority. I had a similar situation in my first fort. Military are the main ones to do much socializing if everyone else is busy, which is a pity since they're some of the most likely to die and most dangerous to go berserk.
