[40d?probably?7] Lazy traders
« on: January 19, 2009, 03:34:18 pm »

Here is the situation: my hunter was injured in sparring (I do sparring a bit to earn them some chances to survive melee). He was wounded till yellow color, so he was in bed. I'm playing a challenging map in a rough "frozen world", so no open water. I found a location with underground water and then started building well. I was short on chains, so i hoped to buy them from appeared merchants. They came to depot and started unloading.

The problem: I was checking their status almost every day (I needed the chain very badly), but they were unloading all the time. At some moment they started packing and I supposed that they'll leave without trading at all (and that was exactly what happened later). So, I saved game at the moment when the message about leaving soon.

My save is here:

Sorry, DFFD is not opening for me :(

P.S.
Sorry if it is reported, I didn't found it in lists.

You can use a rope for the well instead, and ropes can be made from any cloth, in case that helps.

Were there any merchants who never reached the depot?  Was the depot forbidden or anything weird like that?

Yes, One Wagon hadn't reached the depot. I suppose that there is no way from the area where it was spawned.

No, I got ~5 caravans and traded with them. From that time no depot alteration had been made.

Yes, I made it before they left.

So it was just stuck on the map edge?

No, it was moving at that time. I suppose it was moving in circles all the time.

I've had something similar happen recently (running 40c). The traders arrive and most of them get to the depot pretty fast. One wagon lags behind and barely makes it to the depot. I tried dumping a few items from the lag-wagon to see if weight was a problem, but even without the anvil it was carrying, it was still barely moving.

Not quite the same thing, but some time ago I also had an event where a trader with a pack mule almost didn't make the depot because he kept running away from the carp-infested river instead of going wide around it. Might be nice if we could trade whatever traders are there at the time.
