Idea!

Embark on a town of some sorts and try to keep your dorfs on the edge of the map to avoid any sort of run ins with the locals.
While the townsfolk carry on with their business, mine out massive caverns underneath their houses to the lowest z-level (just keep them up with a lever-linked support).
Use all the excess stone to construct a massive tower with arms stretching over each building in the town, supported only by one floor tile jutting off from the trunk of the tower.
Try to coordinate the removal of the floor tile with the throwing of the switch and you can send the hapless civilians to hell and rain down your dorfen wrath from on high.
Then of course, go back into the tunnels and take whatever you can get out of the ruins and trade for delicious alcohol.
