Is there any way to see what items are inside bins (and barrels too, I guess) in a stockpile? And is there any way to take them out? It's rather annoying not knowing what is in which bin.

K -> position cursor over the bin -> enter (I think) to view item.
To take them out, you'd need to generate a task that would make a dwarf take them out. (d)umping them from the viewing menu is definitely possible, if you don't mind them getting dumped.

Try designating a stockpile just for the items you want, and order it be resupplied(t) from the one with mixed stuff.
