Current dwarf thoughts
« on: November 12, 2008, 03:45:14 pm »

I would reeaally like this idea to be implemented, but that's up to Toady_one.

Anyway, underneath the name of a dwarf it would be nice to have a current thought of what they are thinking, par example.

Urist Mchauler
Store Item in stock pile
Is thinking hard
about hammers, anvils, and dwarfs

What dose this mean? Well for one this dwarf could soon have a secretative mood which may involve using a forge or maybe he is thinking about a cute dwarf metal smith? Who knows? Only the dwarf dose!

That's about it, current thoughts can be handled like.

Day dreaming about
Has had thoughts of grandeur of
Etc...

They would almost be like real people!

Not the sims. Better than the sims. Eventually our dwarves will have souls.

Wait, they already do, in the next version. Soon the government will be passing laws making crimes in DF as punishable as real-life crimes.

I'm remembering Roller Coaster Tycoon (The golden days of the original, mind you) and reading guests' thoughts.

Seconded.

That would actually be kind of awesome. Though, more awesome if the thoughts were more specific. Less overall reduced thoughts, and more their frame of mind. "____ is hoping Urist McNicemayor wins the upcoming election." "____ is unhappy with recent unhappiness in the fort." "____ can't wait until the bridge is finished being constructed." "_____ thinks the engravings are distasteful."

I can't tell by the first posts, either sarcasim or whatever, but this seems like a fairly good idea to most people.

Except what would ruin an idea like this? The fact that you could need to fufil a thought or that reading individual thoughts could help make some things easy?

Sounds like something worthy of its own arc.  This would need a pretty huge library of "things that are worth thinking about".  I mean sure, it could make the happiness system more fun, if a dwarf keeps thinking about that statue and it makes him happy because it's on his mind a lot.  But there's plenty of ways a dwarf could think about any given object.  Not just the Sims take of "likes object" "doesn't like object" "misses object" "wishes he had object".

It would make an awesome base for other, more advanced emotional systems though.
