« on: November 09, 2008, 04:22:04 pm »

Doors set to "Forbidden, Pet Passable" do not allow owned pets to pass through.

Not A Bug

just use traffic designations (set the path to super dangerous, and animals may use it as a higher priority, not sure though)

If something says "Pet passable" and pets can't go through it, that's a bug.

Hm, I think that's working as intended. I've always understood the "Forbidden" thing to override the pet-passability. I.e., forbidden meaning forbidden for everyone, not just dwarves.

Still though, it could be clearer. The "pet-passable" thing should perhaps be turned red when you change a door to forbidden? Or something along those lines, merely color coding is never a great solution.

Regarding traffic designations, I think Toady confirmed that pets ignore traffic designations entirely.

Agreed it could be clearer.  When the door is "Tightly Closed", Pet Passable is not displayed at all.  It should not be displayed for a Forbidden door either, if that also does not allow pets to pass.

Too bad, I was trying to make a cat flap.  I envisioned DF doors working in the same manner as my walk-in garage door, including having the cats scoot out when the cat flap is locked and someone opens the large door.  *smiles*

Edit:  I can toggle this untrue "Pet Passable" on and off with the Tightly Closed key, even when the door is Forbidden.  This is definitely a misleading situation.

I think it was found that pets just plain ignore traffic designations, but that does mean low/forbidden traffic will make it close to pet-only.
