Chasms and Channels.
« on: October 22, 2008, 12:03:25 am »

A simple query; if one has a map with a chasm/bottomless pit, goes down to the level adjacent to the "Chasm" tiles, and digs a channel, will it produce a new Chasm tile?

More importantly, perhaps is the question "Has it been tested"?

The chasm tile is a special floor tile. You will not be able to create an artificial chasm tile bu channeling any rock on that last z-level. Folks have attempted to channel the bottom, but it just won't happen, and channeling at bottom+1 will just leave a normal floor at the lowest z-level.

Feel free to open the space at the bottom around your chasm, though. It makes for an entertaining barracks!

Well, crud. So much for dropping the entire world into a pit.

You need to go lie down somewhere.

Preferably inside a chasm.

That would be one heck of a way to abandon your fortress. I commend your dwarvish thinking.

Somehow manage to build a fortress actually on the chasm and then make a god lever that would cast the fort into oblivion, this would be awseome way to kill a fortress, what happens when the last dwarf dies in your fort? Screenies?

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

It has been tested that you can't dig a chanel on the lowest level of the map.
