I'm playing 38c, and I can't figure out how to add new items to the embark screen. I can increase/decrease the number of an item that's already on the list fine. But I can't figure out how to add a new type of item.

This means I can't bring a supply of wood with me, which means I'm very reluctant to try a region without a lot of trees, which restricts the sort of areas I play in no end.

type n on the screen to get to where you can add new items to your embark screen. tab will switch you from units to items.

From what I gathered from his post, it seems he already discovered the item screen. It's adding items to the item screen he has a problem with.

I think there's a line of text somewhere on that screen (probably near the bottom) that tells you what button to press to get to the "add a new item" menu. Probably "n." Failing that, "q."

Well, you were right. Except that on my computer it doesn't say anything as helpful as "new item:n"

It said "key DD/DDn". Or something like that.

Would that key be [ or ] by any chance?

No, it's "n". [ and ] I've fixed up to be my secondary scroll keys. The interface calls them DDB/DDE or something.

I just blink and ignore it, but no there wasn't much clue to me what "DDn" was or what it did.
