A few questions.
« on: October 18, 2008, 11:22:46 pm »

#1: How do you retire your character?

#2: What is the point of Search Carefully (shift+L)?

#3: Why are there so few quests? Whats there to do when you run out of quests?

#4: Where is it safe to stash stuff? I got a crap ton of gold I need to store somewhere. Can I buy a house or something?

#5: Can you, lets say, sneak into town in the middle of the night unnoticed, steal something and sneak away unnoticed and not suffer any ill effects? Or do does everyone psychically know you're a thief?

#6: Sometimes I will find a crevice in a cave (text pops up to tell me this) but I have no clue as to why that is special. There is no graphical change anywhere.

#7: What is the point of "Interact with building, furniture and mechanism" (u) I have yet to see anything I can interact with.

Not real farmiliar with adventure mode, but:

1) go to a town (not sure if it has to be friendly), hit esc, option's on the bottom
2) find groups of vermin? to eat? probably something else, but i can't fathom what.
3) adventure mode is much less deep than dwarf mode. more quests'll come later. as for running out, I haven;t played adv. mode enough, but I've never heard of someone running out of things to do
4) I'm not sure if anywhere's safe, but you can NOT currently buy (or build) a house
5 and 6) No idea, but someone else should know

#1: How do you retire your character?
In a town that you're friendly with, Give In To Starvation on ESC menu is changed.

#2: What is the point of Search Carefully (shift+L)?
Finds roaches/small insects for the sake of, well, whatever you could use them for.  I mostly just use them for ammunition (throwing) but they can be eaten as well IIRC

#3: Why are there so few quests? Whats there to do when you run out of quests?
In a standard world, you will NEVER run out of quests.  You're getting them all from one person, but there's THOUSANDS of people to get them from, not just that one.

#4: Where is it safe to stash stuff? I got a crap ton of gold I need to store somewhere. Can I buy a house or something?
Unless the Mayor's house bag stash trick (Basically you plop stuff down in a bag[backpack?  I don't remember the specifics, never used it, you never really NEED to store stuff now] in the Mayor's house [M on town minimap] and it stays there forever) still works, you can't.
Coming soon is the ability to mine/chop trees/build your own house.

#5: Can you, lets say, sneak into town in the middle of the night unnoticed, steal something and sneak away unnoticed and not suffer any ill effects? Or do does everyone psychically know you're a thief?
If you're friendly to the civilization prior, I don't think they realize you stole it until you leave the town area (the minimap that pops up with aforementioned M and various building icons), so AFAIK you've got it.

#6: Sometimes I will find a crevice in a cave (text pops up to tell me this) but I have no clue as to why that is special. There is no graphical change anywhere.
A crevice?  You mean a "chasm cleft"?  Chasms are bottomless pits.  If you're getting the message but not seeing the giant hole in the mountain, chances are it doesn't breach the level you're on.  That sort of thing is complicated.

#7: What is the point of "Interact with building, furniture and mechanism" (u) I have yet to see anything I can interact with.
Levers in player-created fortresses only for now, workshops, furniture, etc coming during Adventurer Skills Arc last I checked.
A few answers.

Cool thanks for the answers. Been playing Fortress mode for months now and still not sick of it, but just for a change I gave Adventure mode a whirl and i'm loving it besides it steep difficulty curve.

Can't wait for future features and improvements, can't believe big name developers haven't offered to buy/support it.

#4 - Build a fort, and make some lead bins. Store them in a chamber with the entrance lever operated and preferably underwater. Put the stuff you want in those bins. (Note: any door marked to be kept tightly closed will hold water back, and you can still walk through it in both directions without much leakage.)  Your stuff will be there when you get back.

Playing a cheesemaker in an average Fortress 'round here would be. Freaking. Terrifying.
